Sports turf is prone to suffer from serious wear and tear and if it does not receive sufficient water and nutrients in a strong root zone the turf quality will be affected.
Analysing the soil and turfgrass provides groundsmen and greenkeepers with valuable information about its nutrient status and is an excellent management tool.
As sports turf fertilisers and seed are high value products, an integrated programme of analytical testing will ensure that decisions for their use are based on known facts. By understanding the soil / plant nutrient status there is less danger of under or over fertilising, so saving money and reducing the environmental risk.
NRM can provide a rapid and high quality testing of the soil nutrient supply (NPK and trace elements), to determine the nutrient status of the soil. It can also provide an analysis of the rootzone for pH, cation exchange capacity and organic matter.
In the amenity sector both soil analysis and plant tissue analysis are recommended. The soil analysis provides information on the nutrients available whilst the plant tissue analysis provides a snap-shot of the plant’s nutrient status and is a valuable tool in a preventative fertiliser programme and in diagnosing problems.
